The Way of the Cross

People often ask, who is carrying the cross around the streets of Milwaukee?

Why do you carry the cross every Friday around the city?

Good Friday is the day that Jesus died for us. In memory of that event, the Missionaries of the Real Presence pray the Way of the Cross while walking through the city streets, reminding our neighbors of God's love for them, that Jesus came and died for all of our sins. We can offer up all of our pains and sufferings with Jesus on the cross and take up our cross daily and follow him. We all need a constant reminder of Our Savior's infinite love for us.

At noon darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon... Jesus gave a loud cry and breathed his last. (Mark 15:33, 37)

We pray the way of the Cross to

  • remind us of His Death,

  • remind us of the need to take up ours own crosses,

  • fill up what is lacking to the rest of the body of Christ, the Church.

Now I rejoice in my sufferings for your sake, and in my flesh I am filling up what is lacking in the afflictions of Christ on behalf of his body, which is the church (Colossians 1:24)
